Helicopter HUM / FDR : Benefits and Developments Brian

The introduction of Health and Usage Monitoring (HUM) and Flight Data Recording (FDR) systems represented a major advance in both the monitoring and management of helicopters. A considerable amount of in-service experience has now been gained and a clear picture has emerged of the benefits being provided by these systems. The paper reviews the HUM/FDR experience to date to assess the extent to which the hoped for safety and maintenance benefits have been achieved. The paper then describes some current developments which should enable further benefits to be realized.
